Selva Mail vs
SendGrid

Subscription tiers for the API, with marketing features priced separately.

What SendGrid does well

Enormous scale and a long track record. The API is battle-tested, the integrations list is exhaustive, and enterprise buyers get compliance paperwork and support that smaller vendors cannot match.

Where the pricing model hurts

The free tier was discontinued in May 2025, so small projects now start at a subscription. Marketing Campaigns, contact storage and overages are billed on top of the API tier.

What it costs at 5k, 10k and 25k

Assumes four emails per contact per month. Selva Mail is a one-time $497 license, then AWS bills you for what you actually send.

Contacts SendGrid Selva Mail (AWS) Annual saving Payback
5,000 $20/mo ≈$2/mo $215 ~27.7 months
10,000 $20/mo ≈$5/mo $179 ~33.2 months
25,000 $90/mo ≈$12/mo $935 ~6.4 months

Public list prices, 2026. Where a competitor is free software, the saving column is blank on purpose — the cost you are comparing is your own server and your own hours, not a license fee.

Selva Mail costs $497 once, then AWS at cost — about $6/mo at 50,000 emails. It is priced per email sent, not per contact, so it does not grow with your list.

Migrating from SendGrid

Export contacts from Marketing Campaigns as CSV and repoint your API calls. Dynamic templates rebuild in the visual builder; the substitution syntax differs, so budget time for template work.
